Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather

Tyngsborough, MA - Leo A. Toupin, of Tyngsborough, died August 15, 2018 after a lengthy illness at age 89. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy L. (Provencher) Toupin. Born in Newark, New Jersey on June 14, 1929, he was the son of Leo W. Toupin and Ella (Mullen) Toupin. Leo was a veteran of the United States Navy, served as a radioman, and received the Navy Occupation Service Medal with European Clasp. Through the Navy, he was able to follow his passion of history and explore sites in Europe. After serving, Leo attended the Massachusetts Trade Shops Schools where he became a machinist. He was able to share these skills by teaching at Haverhill Trade School which later became Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School in Haverhill, Massachusetts for 17 years. While teaching at Whittier, he attended night school at Fitchburg State College where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Education. Leo was a lifelong member of the YMCA where he enjoyed playing handball and racquetball. Leo was a golf enthusiast and played regularly at the Tyngsboro Golf Club. Leo was a regular fixture at St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts. He served as an usher at the 9 a.m. mass for 55 years. Besides serving in masses, Leo was a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society where he helped many families with basic living needs.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy L. (Provencher) Toupin; three children, Leo T. and his wife Rebecca (Henderson) of Pepperell, MA, Daniel J. and his wife Patricia Falbo-Toupin of Nashua, NH, and Karen Toupin-Manser and her husband Ian Manser of Orlando, FL.; sister Alice (Toupin) Mahoney and her husband Francis Mahoney of Dracut; brother-in-law Joseph Donat Provencher and his wife Miriam (Roarke) Provencher of Dracut; and sister-in-law Clare (Dion) Toupin. Leo leaves five grandchildren, Kristen Toupin, Melissa Toupin, Brian Toupin, Erin Manser, and Patrick Manser, as well as many nieces and nephews. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Francis J. and Raymond J., and daughter Eileen T. Special thanks to the wonderful care Leo received from the staff at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Lowell, MA and Hospice Services of Massachusetts.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects on FRIDAY, August 17th from 4 - 8 p.m. at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut, MA. His funeral will be held from the funeral home at 9 a.m. with his Funeral Mass to follow at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Tyngsoboro, MA on SATURDAY, August 18th at 10 a.m. Burial in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Lowell.
