Obituary for George Andrew Ralls Jr.

George Andrew Ralls Jr.
LOWELL, MA - George Andrew Ralls, Jr., 76, died peacefully, Thursday, July 5th, at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Patricia M. (Perron) Ralls, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.

George was born on February 6, 1942, son of the late Margaret F. (Tucker) and George A. Ralls, and he grew up in the Lowell Highlands. He was a graduate of Lowell Trade School, class of 1960. In 1966, George entered the US Army and served his country proudly in Röedelheim, Germany during the Vietnam War.

George was a hard worker who took pride in providing for his family. He worked as a compositor at the Courier Citizen for 20 years. George was later employed for 30 years as a mail handler at the USPS General Mail Facility in North Reading, MA, also serving as a union steward.

George loved spending time and hosting family days at his summer home at Mallard's Landing on Lake Winnisquam in Belmont, NH. George was passionate about bowling with Saint Margaret’s Bowling League. He was proud to be the longest standing member with over 60 years in the league, serving in a leadership role throughout most of those years. He was recently honored when members offered to rename the league after him. Outside of bowling, he was a committed lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, in good years and in bad.

In retirement, he was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Margeruite d'Youville Parish volunteering many times each month. George was also a proud 52 year Life Member of the Lowell, MA Lodge of Elks #87. He was a daily visitor to the Lowell Senior Center and enjoyed staying in shape using the gym.

In addition to his wife, George is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, George Ralls, III and his husband Mark Tarantan of Massachusetts, and his daughter Catherine Burgess and her husband Jeffrey Burgess of Pepperell, MA; siblings, Catherine Burbank and her partner Richard Carey of Lowell, Eileen LeBlanc and her husband Ralph LeBlanc of Plymouth, MA, his sisters in-law, Cecile Perron of Dracut and Joanne Ralls of Chelmsford, 2 grandchildren, Taylor and Grace Burgess, along with his nieces, nephews, extended family, and many good friends.

He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas F. Ralls, and sister, Margaret A. Dukeshire.
