Obituary for Cheryl Marland-Thomas (Marland)

Cheryl Marland-Thomas (Marland)
Cheryl Marland-Thomas – mother, friend, nurse, giver and caretaker – beat ovarian cancer one final time on Feb. 15, 2018. While most people would not look at the outcome and declare victory, Cheryl’s win came from the way she never let cancer take away her zest and passion for life.
She was, to those who knew her, Super Girl, managing to maintain her smile and her positive outlook through difficult circumstances. Her love for people and caring nature truly shined in her work as a pediatric and adult vascular access nurse at Tufts Medical Center, but also in her efforts as a caregiver to her late husband, Glen, whose long fight with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or ALS ended last October and to her late parents Carol (2015) and Roger (2016). Throughout the family’s trying circumstances, Cheryl’s focus was on living each day a little happier, on finding deeper meaning for all that was happening and spreading a message of hope to all who met her.
It was that message of peace, love, and happiness that will be a legacy not only to her children, sons Kyle and Cory, but to all of those who knew her. In addition to the boys, Cheryl is survived by brother Michael, sister Deborah, nieces Erica, Hannah, and Isabella, as well as a spirit that will live on in all those she called family and friends.
Cheryl was born at Beverly Hospital on June 26, 1962, to Carol and Roger Marland and graduated from Danvers High School. She graduated from Salem State College in 1984 with her Nursing Degree leading to a 30+ year career most notably spent at Tufts Floating Hospital which she joined in 1994. She was a Tufts True Blue recipient in 2013, honored for her hard work and deep-rooted commitment to improving the lives of patients. Away from work, Cheryl could be found walking her dogs, singing and dancing at concerts and always having a great time with friends.
A celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held on Saturday, February 24, from 1 – 5 p.m. – with her funeral service beginning at 4 p.m. in the funeral home -- at Dracut Funeral Home (2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut, Mass.).
In lieu of flowers, Cheryl would have wanted her friends and family to make someone smile, commit a random act of kindness, compliment someone on a job well done, or tell a favorite story, but you can contribute to the Supergirl Fund – which will be used to walk her dogs, give a little something special to those who did so much for her and ultimately be donated to the causes she cared most about – online at https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/81VX68tlX5
