Obituary for George L. Ignacio

George L.  Ignacio
LOWELL-George Lewis Ignacio, 88, of Lowell, passed away onTuesday, February 13, 2018, peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 28, 1929 the son of the late Manuel and Adeline (Lima) Ignacio,in Lowell, where he grew up and attended Lowell schools.

George was an Army veteran of WWII having served in occupational Germany where he achieved the ank of T-5 (Corporal) in the 4th, Armored division.


Upon his return to the States, he married Claire Paquin and they had five children. The couple were pioneers in the drywall business in 1952 and established Glenview Drywall along with a partner, Jim O’Connor. The ensuling years brought about the newest adventure, Dracut Drywall, Inc. which was operated by George and his sons, Warren and George of Dracut, MA. This business is still in operation today in the third generation.


George was also a well-known house builder in and around the surrounding towns of MA and NH. He was the president of Ideal Homes.


Being an outdoor enthusiast, George enjoyed hunting, fishing, water/snow skiing and football. He likes to tie his own flies and was a past member of The Greater Lowell Fly Fishers.


His survivors, including his former wife, Claire are his five children, Warren, George abnd his wife Katherine of Dracut, Maureen Souza, Gail and her husband David Jacquesof Pelham, NH and Susan Ignacio of Kittery, ME. He also leaves eleven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and his long-time companion, Rita Benoit of Lowell, plus his brothers, Anthony of Chelmsford, MA along with many nieces and nephews.


Preceding him in death besides his parents was his sister, Beatrice (Ignacio) Correa of Lowell and a granddaughter, Natalie Souza.


ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, February 16th, from 4 - 7 PM in the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT, Ma. His funeral service will be held Saturday, February 17th at 10AM in the funeral home followed by his burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 96 Riverneck Rd., Chelmsford.
