DRACUT, MA – Steven D Goulas, 93, died peacefully, Friday, January 25th, at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Helen (Szarek) Goulas, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage.

Steven was born in Lowell, MA on January 19th, 1925, a son of the late Stavroula (Georgopoulas/Georges) and Demetrios Goulas. In 1943, Steve enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country proudly during World War II on the USS Henry A. Wiley. The destroyer ship went into action first at Iwo Jima and subsequently at Okinawa. The Wiley and its entire crew were awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for outstanding performance in action against an enemy of the United States, one of only 26 destroyers so honored during the war.

Steven was an active member of the Masons – William North Lodge of Lowell, MA and Aleppo Shriners of Wilmington, MA organizations. He received the 32 degree for devotion and support of these organizations.

Steven worked at General Motors, Raytheon, and in 1956 opened Steve’s Coin and Stamps in Lowell MA. He followed his passion and really never retired from the rare coin business.

Along with his wife Helen, Steven is survived and will be deeply missed by his only child: Steven Jr and his wife Lynn of Windham, NH, 3 grandchildren: Steven III, Alexa, and Dylan, as well as his cousins Ernie & Carol Dennison, Angie Denison and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Bill Goulas, Lou Goulas, Aris Goulas, Peter Goulas, and his sister, Jenny Goulas.

GOULAS -- Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, January 30, from 9:15 – 10:45 am. at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, MA. His funeral will take place from the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday with his funeral Mass to follow at 11:30 AM. at Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church 25 Fr. John Sarantos Way, in Lowell, MA. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steven’s name to the Shriners Hospital for Children of Boston.
