Karol J.  Szafran
LOWELL- Karol J. Szafran,97, passed away, Tuesday, January 23rd, at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine (Garbarz) Szafran.

Karol was born in Lowell, January 23, 1921 the son of the late Mary (Wozniak) and Szymon Szafran. He enlisted in the U.S.Army in 1942 and served his country proudly during WWII where he received the Purple Heart, until being honorably discharged in 1945.
He was employed by Raytheon in Andover until he retired in 1985. Karol was a great man and father and it showed in how he lived his life. He was a member of the Senior Citizen's Club and the Holy Name Society of Holy Trinity Church. You could always find him working Bingo and helping make Pierogi at the church. He was an Alter Server and Usher for Holy Trinity until his last year when he turned 96. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and his church.

Karol is survived and will be deeply missed by his children: Anna Milczarek and her husband Edward of Lowell, Kathleen Malave of Las Vegas, NV., And Walter S. Szafran and his wife Diana (Thompson) of Lowell, his Brother: Andrew H. Ogiba and his wife Violet of Dracut, a Son-In-Law: Miguel Malave, SR., Seven Grandchildren: Tracyann and her husband Brent Esperanza, Miguel Malave, Jr., and his wife Jodi, Daniel Malave, Mary and Christina Milczarek and Jose Lopez, Victoria Szafran His Great Grandchildren: Alicia Malave, Brianna Malave, Joshua and Hannah Catherine Esperanza. A loving Niece Maureen (Szafran) Smith of Long Island, NY. among other nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife Karol was Predeceased by: Walter Szafran, Mitchell Wewiorski and Phyllis Molda.
Karol’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Nursing Staff of Lowell General Hospital for the care and comfort that they gave to Karol.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, January 28th, from 1pm to 5pm in HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, 340 High Street, Lowell, Ma. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Monday, January 29th, at 10AM in Holy Trinity Church, Lowell. His burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Karol's family asks that donations be made in Karol's memory to: The Holy Trinity Church Parish Fund, 340 High St., Lowell, Ma., 01852.
